Stunning and cross-contamination

Stunning in Malaysian halal slaughter is conditionally permitted, not universally banned: it must be a non-lethal, reversible method, with approved parameters and equipment, operated by trained personnel. In addition, halal and non-halal operations must not share the same line or equipment; if the plant has been in contact with severely unclean matter such as pigs or dogs (najs mughallazah), the relevant equipment and space must be cleansed by the sertu ritual before being used for halal slaughter.

  • Going to JAKIM first and ignoring the DVS: without a DVS letter of support / approval conditions, the halal review cannot be completed. The halal and veterinary tracks must run in parallel.
  • Slaughterman without a valid Tauliah: an expired appointment certificate or a non-Malaysian Muslim means the whole slaughter is not recognised as halal.
